PELHAM POETRY PROJECT 2004
Pelham Poetry Project receives $800.00 Arts grant
The Pelham Poetry Project, sponsored by the Friends of the Library in Pelham, has received an $800.00 grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. FLIP sponsors a poetry contest which runs during National Poetry Month (April). This is the Poetry Project's third year. The contest targets all Pelham schools, including Pelham Elementary, Pelham Memorial, Pelham High School and St. Pat’s. Adults can submit as well.
Students and adults who enter the contest will have one poem published in an anthology, which is distributed free of charge to anyone who enters the contest. This year, we will be inviting New Hampshire poet Rick Agran to be our visiting poet. He will be judging the contest and awarding the prizes at an Award Ceremony to be held on May 15th.
We are also pleased to announce that the grant will be supplemented by a donation of $300.00 by the Pelham Elementary PTA and $200.00 by the PTA of St. Patrick School.
This year we hope to raise enough money to bring our poet, Rick Agran, to Pelham schools to conduct workshops for a day.
The budget for the contest, awards ceremony, and anthology is approximately $3,000.00. We will try to raise the remaining $1,700.00 by selling advertisements in our anthology.
Our donation amounts are as follows:
$100.00 full page
$25.00 Business Listing
$10.00 Patron
We have approached many Pelham businesses in the past who have been very generous in providing prizes for the contest. We appreciate the generosity of Pelham residents who help to fund this exciting program.
If you are interested in donating or volunteering, contact any FLIP member, or contact Mona Igram at 635-8151.
Thank you, and we are looking forward to sharing Pelham’s poetry with you.
