David Sandalow, Global Warming Expert, Visits PHS
BROOKINGS INSTITUTION SCHOLAR

Mr. Sandalow gave a presentation on the dangers of global warming,
the impact that pollution from coal firing plants, car exhaust, and
other sources has had on the size of glaciers and ice shelves
world-wide, and how we can fix the problem.
He detailed the research that scientists have done on
the shrinkage of the Antarctic fresh water ice shelves (the largest supply of
fresh water in the world), using data from ice cores that can be dated back
650,000 years.  He explained the technology behind the plug-in Toyota Prius
hybrid car he was driving, and encouraged the students to sit behind the
wheel and explore the technology. Mr. Sandalow is hopeful that large
corporations will be the catalysts for solving global warming, as they realize
that "going green" will be very profitable for them, and that ventures such as A123
Systems will lead the way in developing the needed technology. He encouraged students
to get involved in helping their environment, and using green technology.

A big thank-you to David Sandalow and Jim Merlino for the work they do to educate students and the public about global warming and how to prevent environmental catastrophe!
