SUGGESTED SUMMER READING PROGRAM

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 6-7-8

 

Projects will be collected by homeroom teachers on the FIRST day of school.

 

What is the purpose of the Summer Reading Program?

The purpose of the Pelham Memorial Reading Program is to encourage all students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading and writing skills.

     Benefits to your child include the following:

o       Build vocabulary skills

o       Enhance reading skills

         Lexiled reading lists make it easier for your child to choose a book that is at their appropriate reading level.

    ***Lexiling does not denote appropriate content.

o       Maintains and improves your child's reading writing and communication skills.

o       Opens the door to new reading experiences for many students.

What are the expectations?

Choose a novel from the provided lexiled book list, or choose your own.

o       Student's individual lexile number can be found on the NWEA reports that were sent home.

Complete the outlined expectations contained in this packet.

Work may be typed or clearly handwritten.

What is the incentive to participate?

All students who participate will receive a bonus 100% quiz grade and will be invited by the Principal to an ice cream party to celebrate!

 ***No child will be penalized for not participating in this program.
