An Alter Ego
By: Hannah Tello
An Alter Ego
The moment was set against
The rhythmic drone of passing cars
And the cool comfort of a hush
October afternoon
And I was set against
The rough grating surface
Of a worn brick wall,
Leaning purposefully nonchalant,
Smoking an unlit cigarette
And as she bounced down the stairs
She clutched her parcel to her hip
And rode the crosswalk
Like an undaunted heiress to the pavement
And I wondered what magic it would take
To will her skirt an inch higher
Or two
So that I might catch a slice above her stockings.
