Dear Senior Project Student,

Congratulations on your new found freedom!

You have chosen to take a course that will honor the spirit of who you are, teach you a lot about yourself, and could greatly affect your future!  It will be challenging, rewarding, and exactly what you choose to make it – because you decide what interests you, how you would like to explore it, and how you will present it.  It’s your project.

My role is to listen to you, facilitate your exploration, and help you to research your topic efficiently, effectively, and creatively.  Please keep an open mind as you develop your ideas, let go of preconceived notions, and be willing to go wherever your curiosity leads you!

Each student is required to keep a notebook with their research notes, and to complete the following requirements:

 Letter of Intent

Proposal Statement signed by a faculty member and Ms. Strauss

Essential Questions

Notebook Checks/Homework

Interview and site visit

Bibliography

Outline

Research Paper

Exhibition

Final Exam (unless your grade and attendance record allows you to opt out-see handbook)

Reflection Paper

This course reflects what you will encounter in college:  your assignments will be on the web, your deadlines are given to you on the first day of class.  It is your responsibility to hand in assignments on time- I will not nag you.  Late assignments will be marked down 5 points for each late day; assignments handed in more than 2 days late will not be accepted without prior arrangement.

You will have ample time to do research in class, or at local libraries if your parent/guardian has signed a permission slip.

I look forward to getting to know you, and to helping you learn more about your area of interest!

Sincerely,

Ms. Strauss, Media Specialist
