Course
Description
The
senior project is an opportunity for seniors to do in-depth research in
an area of interest. The
senior develops a proposal for an area of independent study, researches
the topic, interviews experts, and presents the information to an
evaluation team. The
senior, through semester long diligent effort, is prepared to answer
questions in defense of their topic.
Students are graded on attendance, research journals, a
three-part reflection paper, and the quality of their presentation.
Prerequisite:
Seniors only with permission of the facilitator.
Expectations
1. Students
will learn how to identify, explore, and refine their area of interest.
2.Students
will be able to develop a cogent thesis statement that provides a
blueprint for their research activities, and answer the course essential
questions.
3. Students will
investigate and identify research and community resources, verify their
authenticity, and learn to collect, analyze, refine, organize, and
present their research in the form of an oral presentation called the
senior exhibition.
4. Students will be
prepared to answer questions from the judges in defense of their
presentation.
5. Students will
learn to budget their time, meet deadlines, and produce high quality, in
depth work.
6. Students will
reflect on their experience, exploring what they have learned about
themselves, and how they will incorporate this insight into future
activities.
